Swissport International, a global aviation services provider, recently commissioned the new cargo hub as part of a major infrastructure investment at Manchester Airport. The facility doubles Swissport’s annual handling capacity at the airport to 110,000 tonnes and expands its operational footprint by 67%, supporting growing air cargo demand across the UK.
Swissport acts as the appointed cargo handling agent for a number of airlines utilised by Cargo World Logistics. The inaugural shipment represents the first operational use of the facility by a freight forwarder, marking an important milestone in the site’s transition to full operational status.
The purpose-built cargo hub introduces:
• Advanced ULD handling systems to improve efficiency and safety
• Expanded warehouse and throughput capacity
• A dedicated temperature-controlled Pharma Centre
• An ‘A’ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating
• Infrastructure to support fully electric ground service equipment
“Being the first logistics company to move a live shipment through Swissport’s new Manchester facility is something we’re extremely proud of,” said Josh Cartledge, Director of Cargo World Logistics.
“Our focus is always on ensuring our customers benefit from the latest infrastructure and operational capabilities available through the airline networks we work with. This milestone reflects our team’s readiness and ability to adapt quickly as new facilities come online.”
John Knowles, Customer Operations Manager at Swissport MAN added:
“Manchester is a critical hub for the UK’s air cargo network and our continued investment in the north. This marks a strong start for the site’s full rollout.”
The successful handling of the first shipment demonstrates Cargo World Logistics’ operational preparedness and its ability to integrate new cargo infrastructure into its existing airline-led workflows from day one.
As air freight volumes continue to grow, Cargo World Logistics remains committed to providing reliable, efficient, and forward-thinking logistics solutions through strategic use of modern cargo facilities and global airline networks.
“Being the first logistics company to move a shipment through Swissport’s new Manchester hub is an achievement we’re extremely proud of”
